today is a day of transition for us. in addition to that, we're going to see some gusty winds move through here. another day where those winds are going to pick up. we'll show you why in just a second. 50s are on the way and we will see a very good-look weekend, i believe. let's take a look at what is going on out there. we'll start with the satellite- radar composite and we can show you that storm system still impacting the northeast. i suspect that some of this is being overplayed but still, some precipitation, clouds and fairly windy conditions for parts of the southeast as that storm system moves very, very slowly across the ocean. now, as you can see, what this is also going to do is push in some clouds over us today. we did not get the cloud cover that i thought we would yesterday which meant more sunshine. that was nice. this will also help generate some wind in our area. that is why we are expecting the wind to pick up. we have a colder start than we had yesterday, 36 degrees in the district. 32 in gaithersburg.

i think moch -- most of us will be dry. we'll see a little sunshine nix in but don't be fooled by it as we have this moisture-laden system. look at that heavy rain, thunderstorm activity across the south and yeah, in alabama anmississippi, we've got tornado watches that are flying right now. we've got flood warnings for much of alabama. this is a spring-like system and it is generally headed in our direction. i think most of today will be dry but as we get into the nighttime hours, any time after about midnight tonight, the rain will start and it will be around during the day tomorrow. we'll have a period of heavy rain likely tomorrow night and first part of saturday as we watch an area of low pressure develop along the coast. it will be a wet couple of days aroundhere and because of the slow-moving nature of the system t will really not get out of here until sunday or monday at the earliest. so it looks like some of the unsettled weather will be with us here for much of the weekend. floodwatch not in washington but out to
